Fish at Castle Forbes

The river Don at Castle Forbes flows through some of the most picturesque landscape on its entire length.

Halfway between the source of the river and its mouth, almost four miles of double bank fishing east of the village of Alford with majestic Bennachie as a backdrop can provide excellent sport from February to the end of October. The main beats at Castle Forbes are divided by the spectacular 101-ft span of Keig Bridge which was designed by the celebrated Thomas Telford when he was Engineer to the Commissioner for Roads and Bridges in the Highlands of Scotland in the early nineteenth century.

The Don has always been regarded as one of Scotland’s premier trout rivers; now there are also runs of salmon and sea-trout when conditions are suitable throughout the season. An active salmon fishery board operates a hatchery at Strathdon as well as patrolling the whole river for signs of pollution or poaching. And other initiatives at local, national and international level have led to significantly improved catches in recent years.

The fishing at Castle Forbes can be booked by contacting the Estate Office at Castle Forbes through the enquiry form or directly on-line through the FishDon website (CLICK HERE) which has constantly up-dated details of availability, conditions and catches.

Special rates are available to fishing tenants wishing to stay at Castle Forbes.
