SUMMARY OF SEASON 2019
Maybe not a memorable season in respect of the Salmon caught numbers, but it was nonetheless the best for five years. When this is linked with the potential sport provided by the Brown Trout, anglers on the Castle Forbes water should be very content. Although the river was at a good height over many weeks, excepting the mid-summer period, fishing effort was comparatively light throughout the season. Although several spring fish were landed in the late March through June period, about half the total catch was accounted for in October. There were at least 3 fish of 20 lbs caught late on in the season.
As observed, for much of the season this could be described as light. The fact that catches improved indicates that the catch totals would undoubtedly have been higher if the fishing effort had been in place.
There was superb Brown Trout fishing. This is an exciting, if not unexpected, development - one which we had felt was building up over recent years. Many of the Trout caught early in the season were in wonderful condition. This shows clearly that the food chain is both there and extremely healthy over the winter months. Many fish in the 1.5 to 4 lbs range were caught. Both wet and dry fly were successful. As an example, using both during the course of a day, one angler recorded catching 2 @ 1 lbs, 6 @ 1.5 lbs, 2 @ 2 lbs and 1 @ 3.5 lbs on one of the Castle Forbes beats in April!
